Success Story
WildBrain had the following challenges:
1) More than doubling the number of artists while managing work from home and remote office locations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2) Aligning the number of Autodesk subscriptions to match the actual number of artists employed, even if working on multiple projects simultaneously. Prior to the transition to ShotGrid Single User, WildBrain executives felt they were not recognizing good value, paying for duplicate instances to account for artists working on multiple projects.
3) Delivering price competitiveness to support and flexibility with licensing to align to WildBrain’s project-based growth.
The primary goal for this project was to support WildBrain to rapidly grow their number of artists by supporting work from home, and growing the team to over 1000 artists with Premium Plan leveraging Autodesk Single Sign-on. The project would set the stage for continued growth with flexibility to add co-term additional subscriptions or top up for burst with 25 seat annual subscriptions to align with artist and project growth. Additionally, the project would reconcile the number of subscriptions purchased to match the number of artists. A final goal was to obtain good business value with the Autodesk software investment to support a long-term partnership and 3-year commitment with Autodesk and CDW.
The following Autodesk Solutions were deployed along with CDW Canada support:
1) Autodesk ShotGrid with Premium Plan
2) Autodesk Maya
3) Autodesk Media & Entertainment Collection, including Arnold, with Multi-User Exception
CDW and the Autodesk team positioned the value of moving to ShotGrid Single User on a 3-year subscription to achieve an extra 10% savings and lock-in this special pricing for three years. WildBrain also packaged their 3-year ShotGrid investment with a 3-year Autodesk Premium Service support plan. In parallel, the WildBrain team bundled their ShotGrid with Maya and M&E Collection on the same 3-year subscription term. This helped WildBrain secure certainty around leveraging the Multi-User exception licensing and ease their technical teams transition to single user in a phased approach, first ShotGrid and then Maya.
The 3-year subscription also delivers the flexibility to add additional seats and co-term to the 3-year contract or top up with 25-seat annual subscriptions to support WildBrain’s project-based growth. Finally, as part of the partnership with CDW and WildBrain, CDW bundled StudioCloud render credits with this Autodesk ShotGrid solution to deliver additional value. This secured WildBrain’s access to free render capacity from CDW StudioCloud for 1 year.
Through this flexibility and support, WildBrain has been able to grow to over 1,000 ShotGrid seats. They have recently delivered the Sonic Prime animated series for Netflix and have been awarded multiple new seasons of Fireman Sam and Polly Pocket for Mattel. We have been very proud to work side by side with WildBrain as they have more than doubled in size. A long time Maya and ShotGrid client is now looking ahead to next steps in the Autodesk partnership that includes plans to add more of the full Media & Entertainment Collection for a more complete end-to-end Autodesk with Arnold-based pipeline of rendered projects.
