Deliver Value of 1250 User Based Autodesk ShotGrid with 3-Year Business Case

Atomic Cartoons had the following challenges: 1) More than doubling the number of artists while managing work from home and remote office locations during the COVID-19 pandemic. 2) Aligning the number of Autodesk subscriptions to match the actual number of artists employed, even if working on multiple projects simultaneously. Prior to the transition to ShotGrid Single User, Atomic Cartoons executives felt they were not recognizing good value, paying for duplicate instances to account for artists working on multiple projects. 3) Deliver price competitiveness to support growth.

Project goals

The primary goal for this project was to support Atomic Cartoons to rapidly grow their number of artists by supporting work from home, and growing the team to 1250 artists at multiple locations leveraging Autodesk connected solutions. The project would set the stage for continued growth with flexibility to add and co-term additional subscriptions to align with continued artists and project growth. Additionally, the project would reconcile the number of subscriptions purchased to match the number of artists. A final goal was to obtain good business value with the Autodesk software investment to support a long-term partnership and 3-year commitment with Autodesk and CDW.

Solution

The following Autodesk Solutions were deployed along with CDW Canada support: 1) Autodesk ShotGrid 2) Autodesk Maya Multi-User with Exception.

Business outcome

CDW and the Autodesk team positioned the value of moving to ShotGrid Single User on a 3-year subscription to achieve an extra 10% savings and lock-in this special pricing for three years. We also helped Atomic Cartoons leverage the Autodesk 3-year 0% Financing with Annual payments with 3rd party finance partner, Lion Technology Finance. The flexibility to pay with the 3-year 0% financing with annual payments enabled Atomic Cartoons to commit to the 3-year subscription without having to pay upfront. This was a double win as it reduced the total investment cost while aligning with cashflow. The 3-year subscription also delivers the flexibility to add additional ShotGrid Single User subscriptions and co-term to the 3-year contract to support Atomic Cartoons' growth. Finally, as part of the partnership with CDW and Atomic Cartoons, CDW bundled StudioCloud render credits with this Autodesk ShotGrid solution to deliver additional value.

Conclusion

Through this flexibility and support, Atomic Cartoons has been able to grow from a 500 artist studio to a 1250 ShotGrid deployment. They have recently delivered the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special for Disney+ and have been awarded a full season of Marvel’s "Spidey and his Amazing Friends” for Disney Junior. We have been very proud to work side by side with Atomic Cartoons as they have more than doubled in size.
