Autodesk Advanced Manufacturing Solution for Admiralty International Pte Ltd

Autodesk Advanced Manufacturing Solution for Admiralty International Pte Ltd

Customer challenge

Admiralty International Pte Ltd was incorporated in 1991 and initially for trading of marine hardware and boat care products. It operated from a 700 square feet shop. With the good support from our customers, Admiralty International Pte Ltd has expanded their activities and moved to its present location at Loyang Crescent in 1998. They provide their customers a comprehensive and preventive maintenance in marine repairs. They have the technology and capabilities to design and manufacture their products, such as fiberglass boats, rigid hull inflatable boats and structural fiberglass products. They also build fiber glass products according to customer's design. Initial challenge for Admiralty International is that their operation is labour intensive, manual and heavily relied on skilled workers and craftsmen to complete projects. The lead time is long so the sales side cannot commit too many projects at one time.

Project goals

Using Autodesk solutions, Admiralty International ultimate aim is to improve on its machining efficiency. Milling process time has to be cut short with each job. To have a Robotic system (KUKA) to improve on company turnaround time between jobs, etc. The desired outcome is to build a strong production process that is based on Robotic solutions. Then, the company can be confident to expand the market share.

Solution

Admiralty International has evaluated a few solutions before finally deciding on Autodesk Advanced Manufacturing solution. The company has been using Autodesk PowerMill and Autodesk PowerShape since 2011. They have started their 7-axis Kuka robotic milling system with Autodesk PowerMill and Autodesk PowerShape to improve on the productivity in their automation process. Shonan Design has rendered technical support with post processor customization and conducted training on CAD modelling (Autodesk PowerShape) and CAM programming with robot arm (Autodesk PowerMill).

Business outcome

With the implementation of a new system and delivering on the job training, they have seen improvement in terms of time saving, simplified workflow and process compared with the conventional methods (labour intensive approach). With the right Autodesk CAM solution their tool life greatly improved with cutting effectiveness and efficiency. This brings down their cost for cutting tools. Their work force is fully utilized as labour required with the former conventional process shifted to focus on the finishing stage due to the much better quality of the pattern made from the Robot Milling system.

Conclusion

As efficiency improves with the advancement of CAD/CAM technology, more sales are generated and the company sees a significant improvement with the revenue. Admiralty International is able to R.O.I within 1 year after their initial investment. Admiralty International is very appreciative with the work that our Shonan Design team has done for them. “We thank Shonan Design Singapore team for helping us implement this turn-key solution and their technical supports. We have no doubt the advance CAD/CAM solution from Autodesk is superior and robust" - Mr. Chia Thien Fook, Managing Director, Admiralty International Pte Ltd.

Autodesk PowerShape for Comopack

Comopack is a global provider of KLT containers and 100% reconfigurable dunnage solutions, which can be rented and shipped across continents, where Comopack will manage all maintenance, delivery and collection. Comopack is headquartered in Singapore where the team handles design, production and operation. The challenge faced by Comopack is that oftentimes when they design their products, they were unable to meaningfully edit polygonal (mesh) models. The designing team was restricted to using their CAD software on one computer per license. In addition, Comopack was looking for a more user friendly and reliable solid modelling software for their product design output.
