Success Story
Distillery VFX is a young boutique visual effects studio that focuses on the growing need for environmental VFX. It creates visual worlds, set extensions and generalist compositing work for a broad range of episodic and feature projects. It was in March 2020 when Distillery VFX opened its doors in Vancouver. Many might have questioned the wisdom of starting up a business at the beginning of a global pandemic. But for Distillery it turned out to have enormous benefits. While many established operations were scrambling to transition their employees to work from home – they came out of the gate with just such a model. But in order to work remotely, they needed help to wrangle all their projects.
The primary project goal identified was to help the team manage and control their projects in a rapidly growing environment, while meeting their project deadlines for their clients.
The biggest solution turned out to be Autodesk’s ShotGrid, which was not just a tool for client review and feedback but also a way to keep their remote team engaged. For Valdone Koronczi, Head of Production, ShotGrid is an invaluable tool: “It absolutely helps me manage and organize. I have no idea how we would do it without it. We do it with the shot boards and we do thumbnails and things. But obviously all of our submissions go through ShotGrid and all of our notes and all of our statuses and client feedback. It just makes life so much easier.”
Distillery VFX was a customer of Annex Pro for hardware purchases when they learned that Annex Pro was also an Autodesk Solution Provider. Troy Tyler, Distillery VFX Chief Technical Officer, found their services extended well beyond the initial hardware and software purchases: "You can go to Annex Pro and say, I want to solve this problem and then they'll work with you to figure out these are all the different components that you're going to need."
The core team at Distillery are technical and creative multipliers, delivering more than the sum of its parts, and they focus on delivering strong results under tight timelines.
The combination of Autodesk’s powerful set of tools and Annex Pro’s software and hardware support has allowed the dedicated team at Distillery VFX to tackle larger and more complicated jobs while maintaining their “boutique” approach to visual effects production.

Deploying ShotGrid and Maya to Produce Major 3D Episodic
Doberman Pictures lacked its own project pipeline before a direct invitation to collaborate with a renowned, global animation studio on 3D projects. As they transitioned from working primarily on 2D animation to 3D projects, it was necessary to expand beyond the Adobe products they were accustomed to in order to produce the upcoming 3D episodic. Doberman previously used Photoshop, After Effects, and Animate. However, in order to collaborate freely with the major global animation studio, they needed to implement a more efficient project management tool. They also wanted to earn a reputation as a studio where artists are free to do their best creative work where the tools work effectively and almost invisibly in the background.
Phoenix Labs Race for Renewals to Meet Growing Demands
Phoenix Labs is a Canadian video game studio with a mission to bring players together through deep multiplayer games. To continue development on Dauntless, their flagship title and move forward with new game prototypes, Phoenix Labs has been expanding its team to meet these high aims. With the demand for gaming content increasing, Phoenix Labs knew they needed to act quickly to fulfill this ambitious task and supply their passionate team with the right quantity and quality tools necessary.
Bron Enhances Creative Process with Shotgun Deployment
Bron Studios, a media and entertainment company, use a range of Autodesk software but were having issues with an existing legacy Shotgun deployment. These Shotgun licenses were set up attempting to be a solution to all divisions of the company, and as a result, were less than ideal for the purpose of setting up new projects specifically for Bron Digital division of Bron Studios. Bron Digital needed to start over with fresh licenses, this time supported by a reliable and professional reseller.
