Improved evaluation process of received project documentation

Improved evaluation process of received project documentation

Customer challenge

As a company engaged in the design and construction of buildings of high-rise and civil engineering, LOTEX Group is often in a position to work on the basis of project documentation produced by someone else and which is of different quality. As some of these projects are financed by public procurement, it is necessary to look at the scope of work and prepare a bid in a short time. This has previously led to miscalculations and financial losses that were primarily incurred as a result of poor 2D project documentation.

Project goals

In order to eliminate these problems as much as possible and speed up the bidding process, which includes various sectors within the company, LOTEX has decided to implement a completely new process of evaluation of documentation and bid preparation in cooperation with PMO. Autodesk products, Autodesk Revit and Autodesk AEC Collection, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, and Autodesk Docs were chosen as software solutions.

Solution

The new process of evaluation of documentation and preparation of bids implies that on the basis of the received 2D project documentation (.pdf and/or .dwg) 3D models of objects are made in Autodesk Revit in order to detect all non-compliances in the documentation. Based on the clash-free 3D model, an estimate of the amount of materials and required work is also carried out. In order to work faster and more efficiently on the model, the Project Bureau will also use Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro.

In order to more efficiently exchange documentation with other sectors within the company, Autodesk ACC Docs were implemented, which ensures efficient management of versions of documentation and better communication among project participants.

Business outcome

During the first months of use, LOTEX managed to significantly reduce the time needed to evaluate the received project documentation and prepare the offer. A centralized platform for managing and exchanging project documentation has contributed to more efficient work and reduction of errors. All together has a positive effect on reducing costs.

Conclusion

This project has shown the expected results and will have a second phase which will include the expansion of the Autodesk ACC platform use to takeoff and construction site.
