Full-Service Consulting for better BIM Management

Full-Service Consulting for better BIM Management

Customer challenge

Davis, Carter, Scott (DCS) is a long-time customer, and employs an excellent group of tech-savvy people. Our relationship started with the Autodesk products we sold and supported, and when they first began transitioning to Revit, it became a full-service partnership via our services team. DCS recognized the complexity and challenges of the transition, and sought a partnership with CADD to supplement the in-house CAD/BIM management team, who were all actively leading projects.

Project goals

DCS, trusting our knowledge and experience, initially brought us in to ensure a streamlined and successful Revit transition. Our consulting morphed into a strong connection between our two companies, which expands up to leadership on both sides, and continues to this day. Currently they have an excellent full-time BIM manager, and our on-site consultant has shifted focus to enforcing the same quality of knowledge and execution with Interiors.

Solution

Over our partnership, we have delivered consistent consulting hours, recurring weekly, at the DCS location. Our on-site services include template creation, in-house training, updating standards and developing a clear path to uphold them, content creation and management, and on-call troubleshooting. They also utilize our online education system, CADD Community, to keep their people up to date with industry technology and to access our downloadable CADD Apps to further optimize their workflow.

Business outcome

From a business standpoint, DCS has clearer standards, updated templates, streamlined procedures, and are up to date on the latest technology and tools for their industry. From a morale standpoint, their general Revit knowledge as well as their enthusiasm for technology and continued learning have increased since our recurring consultation began. They not only appreciate what our CADD consultant has to offer them, but they include her as one of their own.

Conclusion

Our partnership has been, and continues to be, very positive on both sides. There’s tremendous shared trust and loyalty between DCS and CADD, and to this day, we hold quarterly meetings with leadership on both sides to make sure our full-service approach addresses all their growth goals as they form them. They know when they engage wtih our professional services, they don't just receive quality consulting, but have the entire CADD family behind them to ensure their success.

Custom Revit Template to Improve Project Outcomes

GuernseyTingle is a full-service architecture, interior, and planning firm located in Williamsburg, VA. GuernseyTingle has been using Autodesk Revit for several years, primarily with internal support for Revit standards and content. As business increased for the firm, it created limitations on the amount of time dedicated to keeping their Revit standards up to date. The growth of the company also had other ramifications by limiting available bandwidth to do other model and software management tasks, such as resolving “random” issues in Revit projects and deploying software updates firm-wide.

Using Dynamo to Create a Long-term Solution

DuctSox manufactures custom-engineered commercial and industrial air dispersion products for open ceiling architecture, critical environments, and underfloor applications, and is headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa. DuctSox was using a custom piping program application built on top of AutoCAD to design their custom fabric ducting systems. In their workflow, they were drawing in 3D, then opening and flattening the drawing to export engineering data to a CSV file for production. The application exported data to validate the design while also meeting the requirements of the engineering team for air distribution. They were looking for a replacement for their current custom application, as it was being discontinued. Their current application was also missing a few critical features, including different shapes and size drawings that needed to be added to a new solution.

Custom On-Demand Training to Standardize User Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D

McAdams Company is a civil engineering firm located in Durham, NC. As part of their ongoing efforts to provide outstanding projects to their clients, they performed a “health check” regarding their users’ aptitude and comfort with Civil 3D and AutoCAD. During the assessment, they discovered many topics that their users wanted further instruction on, and they also had users at different levels of knowledge. The internal training program portal they had been using was not meeting their needs for flexibility and the creation of custom content. They had also tried one-on-one training before, but they found that without a reinforcement mechanism, it often needed to be repeated multiple times, which was costly.
